This Is How I Plant Autumn Garlic

With Christmas just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to talk about planting garlic! πŸŽ„πŸ§„

Did you know? Garlic is best planted before the festive season for 2 reasons:

1) Garlic cloves require a cold period to trigger bulb development πŸŒ¬β„οΈ
2) Fall planting allows the cloves to establish roots before winter, ensuring a robust growth 🌱

I am growing 2 varieties this year:
– Rhapsody Wight, a softneck variety
– Kinglands Wight, a hardneck variety with purple cloves. πŸ§„

🌟 My Secret Tip: I don’t dedicate a full bed to garlic. Instead, I plant it around the edges of my garden beds. Why? Because garlic is an amazing pest repellent! 🐌🚫 It works wonders in safeguarding my tender spring crops from unwanted visitors.

This method is not just space-efficient but also a step towards creating a polyculture garden. By sowing garlic this way, I’m preparing for a diverse and thriving garden come spring. 🌼🌿

So, if you haven’t already, get those garlic cloves in the ground and wait for your garden to burst into life in the spring! 🌸🌻

Happy planting, everyone! πŸŒΎπŸ™Œ
